Florida DEM has urged residents to take early action to prepare for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season. This reminder came in advance of the National Hurricane Preparedness Week and Florida Hurricane Preparedness Week which were held concurrently from the 04 – 10 May 2025.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) reminded residents that there is just under one month left to the start of the hurricane season. The organization encouraged residents to prepare early, because this is an effective approach that can help to protect lives, property and communities across the state.
Additionally, Floridians would stock their disaster supply kits, update and finalize emergency plans and understand the weather hazards that could affect their home and community.
Florida DEM Executive Director Kevin Guthrie offered wise advice for Florida residents.
“I want residents to use Hurricane Preparedness Week as their wakeup call to get their plans ready. Last year’s active hurricane season demonstrated that hurricanes bring far more hazards than just wind and rain. From tornadoes to flooding, don’t wait to update your disaster plans—preparedness today means resiliency tomorrow.”
